It will be two months ago Friday, when Grandview police discovered the body of 35-year-old Jennifer Cooke.
Since then, her apartment has been cleaned out, the crime tape is removed and people in the neighborhood still talk about who did it and why.
“It's in the back of my mind. We think about, it we've changed some of the things as far as we don't leave our windows open, stuff like that,” said Bryan Webb, who lives a few doors down from where the murder happened.
Kathi Mertz, who lives across the street from Cooke’s former apartment, said that she is cautious.
“I'm still very cautious about keeping my lights on outside and keeping my doors locked and everything like that,” she said. “You never know. It could have been people checking doors.”
Cooke’s murder is the first for Grandview Heights in more than a decade.
The department admits it's not used to that kind of investigation, so it hired former Columbus police cold case Detective Jeff Sacksteder to help them develop a suspect.
Grandview is also relying on assistance from state investigators.
“It's been 13 years since our last homicide, and we're getting a lot of help from all these other people, so we're in the right direction,” said Officer Janna Cohill of Grandview Heights Police.
Cooke's Volkswagon remains at the police department, but the department won't talk about whether any evidence from the car or from her apartment has helped move the case forward.
The department is confident her killer came after her.
“We absolutely do feel that it's an isolated incident,” Cohill said.

Cohill declined to comment whether they had identified a suspect.
But with no arrest in the case, those who live near Cooke’s home say life will never return to normal as long as killer remains on the loose.
“Yeah I still wonder about, was it someone she knew, was it a random act?” Mertz said. “It's a weird feeling. It’s close. It’s a house over,” Webb said.
Detectives are still asking the public to call them if they remember seeing anything out of the ordinary between Aug. 8 and Aug. 11 outside Cooke's apartment. The number is 614-488-7901.
