Detectives Hope To Crack 1986 Slaying Near Ohio State Campus

Police hope new DNA testing will help solve a cold case that involved a 19-year-old who was last seen alive when he went to a party near the Ohio State campus.

The haunting memory of a teenager who was found stabbed near the Ohio State campus still haunts investigators more than two decades later.

Detectives told 10TV's Danielle Elias that David Hadaway went to a party near the Ohio State campus on July 21, 1986.

"(It was a) very large party," said Columbus police Detective Russ Redman. "A lot of people attended the party."

The next morning, police said that women who were searching in and around Dumpsters for cans to recycle stumbled upon Hadaway's body.

"His body was found wrapped in a blanket, pretty much all trussed and tied up, and rolled into a blanket," Redman said.

Hadaway, 19, was stabbed multiple times, according to investigators.

"(It was a) very brutal, very personal crime," Redman said. "David had no known enemies. He was just a kid and he was found in that Dumpster."

Redman hopes that new DNA testing can help decipher the DNA collected from 1986 in hopes of determining the killer.
