Deputies Chase Down Sibling Theft Suspects, Find Children In Van

A brother and sister are facing felony charges after Delaware County deputies say they broke into several vehicles then led them on a chase, all with two children in tow.

Amber and David Lindie faced a judge Thursday morning from behind bars.

Columbus police said the sister and brother were spotted Wednesday night breaking into vehicles outside of a Polaris Parkway restaurant.

Delaware County deputies said Columbus police told them to be on the lookout for the suspects' blue minivan. It was soon spotted along old 3c Highway outside of Galena.

Dash camera video showed a deputy's attempt to follow the van. After initially losing it, he found it off the roadway in a wooded area.

Deputies say the driver, David Lindie, took off into the woods, where he was later found by a sheriff's office K9 unit.

Inside the vehicle, investigators said that they found thousands of dollars in stolen property along Amber Lindie's two children - a 4-year-old and an 8-month-old.

"Anytime you are being stopped by police, and you take off running from enforcement, you crash a car as a result and you bail - that places just about everybody in jeopardy," said Lt. David Buttler of the Delaware County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say the children were not physically hurt and are now staying with relatives. The siblings remain behind bars.

Both Lindies have been charged with receiving stolen property, and deputies say they could face additional fleeing and eluding -- as well as child endangering.
