A man accused of participating in a plot to kill his 16-year-old girlfriend's parents was ordered held under $500,000 bond on Thursday.
Robert Best is being held at the Franklin County jail, 10TV's Josh Poland reported.
Best and his girlfriend, Grace Dillman, are accused of hatching a plan to kill Dillman's parents.
According to court records, Dillman planned the slaying of her parents last month.
Dillman, who attended Veritas Academy in Worthington, is alleged to have hatched the plan to have Best, her 20-year-old boyfriend, slit her parent's throats while they slept in their Hamilton Court home.
Investigators said that Alan Dillman did not approve of his daughter's relationship because of Best's age. Police said that the relationship started online when Grace Dillman was 13.
On Wednesday, Dillman and Best allegedly attempted to carry out the plan. According to court records, Dillman held a flashlight on her father and encouraged her boyfriend to hurry.
Best retrieved a kitchen knife from the kitchen, after which time Dillman's father, Alan Dillman, awoke, court documents said.
According to court documents, Best stabbed Alan Dillman in the back during an ensuing struggle.
Best was charged with attempted murder, attempted aggravated murder and felonious assault. Grace Dillman was charged with attempted murder, Poland reported.
Best’s grandmother, Bernice Best, who said that she raised Robert Best, said that she was filled with a number of emotions.
“We thought we had instilled more sense of values in him than what apparently showed up,” said Bernice Best, who lives in Ellensburg, Wash., and spoke with 10TV News via phone on Thursday.
Jersey Baptist Church pastor John Hays said that the Dillman family was active in his church.
Hays declined an on-camera interview with 10TV News but said that he had nothing but good things to say about the Dillman family.
He said that the incident had “shaken the church,” Poland reported.
Alan Dillman was expected to recover from his injuries.
