Convicted Killer Admits To Killing Fellow Inmate With Homemade Knife

A convicted killer with a history of attacking other inmates pleaded guilty to killing another man inside of a correctional institute.

Eugene Groves admitted on Monday that he stabbed fellow inmate Mark Frash, 51, more than 12 times with a homemade knife in September 2010 at the Ross County Correctional Institute.

Groves, 59, was sentenced to 15 years to life for the murder, a punishment that will run concurrent to the life sentence that he received for kidnapping and killing his estranged wife and shooting her mother in Hamilton County in 1976.

Groves was transferred to the Ohio State Penitentiary in Youngstown.

In 1985, Groves was found not guilty by reason of insanity for stabbing an inmate in the chest with upholstery shears. In 1988, he was convicted of attempted murder during for the attack of another inmate.
