Bucyrus Police Search For Clues After Finding Two Bodies On Labor Day

Bucyrus Police say they now believe the deaths of two people found at different locations were not related. Read more.

Two calls within a half hour of each other in Crawford County have Bucyrus Police investigating two separate death cases.

Police began investigating the first death at the Bucyrus Manor apartments around 2:43 p.m. Monday before receiving the second call around 3:11 p.m. about a death on Fremont Street.

"It's upsetting, very upsetting," said Nina Edwards about the death on Fremont St. "It's shocking. I can't believe somebody would do this to somebody, especially somebody that's so nice."

Edwards and Diana Shope spent their Monday evening sharing memories of their neighbor, who police said was killed by a blow to the head.

"I can't believe that somebody would do something so horrible to somebody," said Shope.

Police have not released the 55-year-old man's name, but officers said they do suspect foul play in his death.

Detectives also are not linking the death on Fremont Street to the Bucyrus Manor death.

Police said they were called to those apartments for a wellness check on a 67-year-old man.

"His grandson was expecting to talk to him on the phone today and wasn't getting an answer on the phone," said Bucyrus Police Chief David Koepke. "Unfortunately, he was found deceased in the apartment."

Police said they will conduct a thorough investigation before ruling out foul play.

Officers said they have already begun looking for those responsible for the Fremont Street death. Neighbors said they want them caught quickly.

"I hope they're caught. I hope they're hurting and I hope they pay for it," said Shope.
