A high school and middle school music teacher accused of sexual misconduct involving students has resigned, effective immediately.
According to the Buckeye Valley School District, Matthew Miller submitted his resignation to administrators on Monday. His resignation was accepted by the district’s board of education.
Miller, who served as a vocal music teacher at Buckeye Valley High School and Middle School, acknowledged that he had engaged in certain conduct with district students that was considered improper and could result in criminal charges, according to the district.
Interim Superintendent Mark Tingley said on Friday that Miller was put on paid administrative leave last week, while the Delaware County Sheriff's Office investigates the allegation that he was involved in sexual misconduct involving one or more students.
The details surrounding the alleged misconduct were not immediately released.
"The District regrets any distress to parents which reports of this incident may have caused. The Buckeye Valley Local School District is deeply committed to the prevention of sexual abuse and harassment in its schools, and vigorously enforces its policies against sexual harassment and misconduct of all kinds," the superintendent said in a release.
District officials said that they immediately contacted authorities upon learning about the allegations.
