Alleged Serial Robber Apprehended by Restaurant Employees

Restaurant employees jump into action to take down a would-be robber. Get the details.

Restaurant employees jumped into action to take down a would-be robber in northwest Columbus Sunday.

Columbus police said it happened around 7:30 p.m. at General Tso’s Chinese restaurant on Godown Road, north of Bethel Road.

Columbus police detectives believe the suspect in custody is connected to as many as a dozen recent armed robberies throughout the city.

Police have not released the suspect's name.

Detectives said the female suspect walked into the restaurant and pointed a gun at an employee behind the cash register.

The employee gave the suspect the money and as the suspect was going to leave the store, the employee yelled in a foreign language that they were being robbed.

At that time, another employee came out from the dining room and tackled the female suspect.

The employees were able to contain the suspect until police arrived and took her into custody.

“If it hadn't been for their bravery and actions, she would have not been caught and the spree would have continued on. So they did a real service to the community by helping us apprehend her," said Detective Gary Bowman.

Detectives said the suspect used a fake weapon.

She is facing aggravated robbery charges in connection with the latest incident and will likely face additional aggravated robbery counts.
