1 Dead After Shooting At South Zanesville Burger King, Suspect Apprehended

One person was shot and killed at a South Zanesville Burger King Thursday morning.

Two people are in custody involving a shooting inside a South Zanesville Burger King.

Around 10 a.m. the Muskingum County Sheriff said a man walked into the restaurant and shot another customer.

Detectives are trying to sort out how why it happened, but judging by those who called 911, it appeared the victim and shooter had an argument prior to the shooting.

Caller: I'm at the Burger King on Maysville Pike and the guy just shot a guy in the head!
Dispatcher: Inside the restaurant or outside in the parking lot?
Caller: Inside the restaurant
Dispatcher: Was it a robbery?
Caller: No. He just stood up and shot him.

The sheriff's department identified the victim as 61-year old Charles M. Hopper of Zanesville, who friends describe as a long-time regular at the restaurant.

Deputies say the gunman was involved in an argument with another woman when Hooper apparently intervened.

The gunman apparently did not like what the customer said and shot him in the head.

"He was trying to get the guy from the girl," said another 911 caller.

Deputies located the suspect's car on Hideway Lane and Old Coopermill Road.

Investigators would not say whether they recovered the murder weapon.

The sheriff says he's withholding the name of the suspect until charges are filed which could come later day or tomorrow.

It was not released why a second person was taken into custody.
