18-year-old, 29-year-old identified as victims in Krumm Park shooting

The coroner's office confirmed that 18-year-old Jakwaun Kimbro died at Krumm Park on the night of June 3. Lonnie Johnston, 29, was also shot and killed.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Franklin County Coroner's Office identified the second victim who was shot and killed at an east Columbus park last week as an 18-year-old man.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, the shooting happened at Krumm Park on Alton Avenue on the night of June 3. Investigators believe there were multiple shooters.

The coroner's office confirmed that 18-year-old Jakwaun Kimbro died at the park. Lonnie Johnston, 29, was also shot and killed in the shooting.

Earlier in the evening, a vigil was held at the park for 18-year-old Da’Mya Cummerlander.  She was fatally shot on June 2 during a graduation party on Woodsedge Road. Police are investigating whether the shooting at Krumm Park is connected to the vigil.

A 20-year-old man, Kenneth Hairston, was charged with involuntary manslaughter in Cummerlander's death.

Franklin County Municipal Court records say that Hairston interviewed with police, alongside his attorney, the day after the shooting. Hairston claims he was with Cummerlander and four other people when someone handed him a Glock pistol. He claimed he didn't want the gun and went to hand it back to the person, but his hand was smacked, causing the gun to go off. The bullet struck Cummerlander.

Hairston is in custody at the Franklin County jail. He is being held on a $500,000 bond.

Police are also looking for more persons of interest in connection with the shooting. Detectives believe the persons of interest returned fire after shots were fired at them.
