Records: Columbus mom charged after 5-year-old son dies from medical neglect

Saado Adam said she did not seek medical care because voices in her heard told her not to take him to a doctor.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus woman has been charged with endangering children in connection with the death of her 5-year-old son.

According to Franklin County Municipal Court records, the Columbus Division of Police was contacted on Monday just before 1 p.m. after the boy was taken to Nationwide Children's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The mother, 44-year-old Saado Adam, told detectives during an interview that the child had been sick for several weeks, was not eating regularly and had not been walking since approximately November 2022.

Detectives stated Adam told them she did not provide medical care for the child because she heard voices that told her not to take her son to the doctor.

A medical report from the hospital given to police stated that the child's condition could have been from prolonged starvation or massively inadequate feeding. The report noted either situation represented life-threatening medical neglect.

Adam is being held on a $25,000 bond. She has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Jan. 19.
