COLUMBUS, Ohio — Five people were killed and several others injured in five separate shootings throughout the city of Columbus on Saturday and Sunday.
Officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called to two shooting reports in the overnight and early morning hours. The incidents happened in or near downtown Columbus and on the city's east side.
A man, identified as 34-year-old Tyler Goins, was fatally shot during his birthday celebration in east Columbus on Saturday.
The shooting happened around 12:35 a.m. at the Napa Townhomes on Vineshire Drive.
Police say Goins was with two other men celebrating his 34th birthday and had been drinking when an argument reportedly began. During the argument, police say one of the men, identified as 30-year-old Al'Saiah Griffin, allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot at Goins.
After the shooting, Griffin left the area but later surrendered to police at the urging of his family members.
He is now charged with murder in the death of Goins and is being held at the Franklin County Jail.
Police say they are still working to identify the third man known as “Bookie.”
Around 2:45 a.m., Columbus police responded to a shooting in the area between the Italian Village and Weinland Park neighborhoods. Officers found multiple people shot in what was described by police as a “very chaotic scene.”
Three men — 27-year-old Malachi Pee, 18-year-old Da’ondre Bullock and 26-year-old Garcia Dixon Jr. — were pronounced dead from the shooting.
Three other people were wounded in the shooting and taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Police described two of the victims’ conditions as stable while the third was listed in critical condition. Investigators say they are expected to survive their injuries.
Details on what led to the shootings are not known, but police say they are working with witnesses to gather more information.
In a statement, Mayor Andrew Ginther said the city will remain diligent and vigilant to prevent crime in the city and enforce safety and security measures.
Denmark Road
An adult was shot in their lower leg on Denmark Road near I-270.
Additional details were not provided, but police said the shooting victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive their injuries.
One person was found shot on North High Street in the Short North Arts District just before 2:15 a.m. Sunday.
The shooting victim was taken to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and their condition was described as stable.
It is unclear what led up to the shooting and suspect information has not been released.
Police found 30-year-old Raymundo Sanchez-Hernandez shot on Marshall Passage, near East Main Street, in downtown Columbus early Sunday morning.
Officers were called to the area just after 5:20 a.m. and Sanchez-Hernandez was pronounced dead at 6:10 a.m. at Grant Medical Center.
Investigators are working to determine what led to the shooting and a possible suspect.
