COLUMBUS, Ohio — Authorities released new video that took place near The Ohio State University last month in hopes of identifying four suspects involved in the incident.
In the late evening hours of Oct. 17, police said two male students and a female non-student got out of an Uber in the 1700 block of North High Street when they were approached by four suspects.
As the victims walked past one of the suspects, they can be seen attempting to talk to the female victim.
Police said one of the suspects threw something at the woman and began to yell at her. One of the male students attempted to get in front of her and was hit several times by all the suspects.
The suspects continued to punch and kick the student until he fell on the ground, according to police. One of the suspects removed some property from one of the victims and kicked it down the sidewalk and another victim has property removed from his person.
Police said another victim attempted to intervene and pushed the suspects off his friend. He is then hit in the back of the head with what appears to be a tire iron. Someone went inside the bar for help and the suspects left the area.
The victims were taken to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center with severe lacerations on their heads. On Wednesday, police said their conditions have all improved.
“That's really hard to watch, a lot of the victims were hit multiple times by multiple people at the same time. One of the victims was defenseless on the ground and continued to be kicked and hit and robbed. Completely unacceptable,” said Columbus Police Officer Anthony Johnson.
