COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus man was sentenced Tuesday to 10 years in prison for gun and drug crimes, including firing a handgun outside of Topgolf near Polaris.

According to U.S. Attorney Kenneth Parker, 28-year-old Davon Rayford was handed a sentence of 120 months in prison. He pleaded guilty in May to possessing with the intent to distribute controlled substances and to possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking.

The charges stem from an incident outside of Topgolf in February 2023 between Rayford and several other people.

Court documents say that a fight broke out between Rayford and the people he was golfing with. Rayford went to his car, got out a Glock 9mm pistol and proceeded to fire several shots at the people in their car, records say.

He then left the area.

Parker’s office said the parking lot was full of other customers at the time that he fired shots.

A special duty officer was present at the time and collected the shell casings and Rayford was captured on the business’ surveillance camera.

Rayford was involved in a car crash the following day, Parker’s office said. When officers arrived, he was intoxicated and trying to leave the scene of the crash.

As he was being arrested, officers discovered meth, cocaine, fentanyl, Xanax, the Glock pistol and $5,000 in cash.

He was charged federally and arrested in June 2023. He then pleaded guilty in May 2024.

The court ordered Rayford to serve his federal sentence consecutive to his current state sentence with the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections, which is due to end in August 2026.
