COLUMBUS, Ohio — Authorities charged a 21-year-old man in a drive-by shooting that seriously injured a 2-year-old in southeast Columbus earlier this year.
According to Franklin County Municipal Court documents, Columbus police officers were called out to the 4000 block of Carlton Avenue on July 7 for a report of a shooting.
Officers found a 2-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound and he was taken to Nationwide Children's Hospital.
Court records say detectives used surveillance and witnesses to identify the suspect vehicle as a 2006 gray Toyota Camry. The witnesses were also able to give detectives a description of two males inside the car.
Further into the investigation, detectives spoke to witnesses who identified the front-seat passenger as Xavier McGrapth.
According to court records, McGrapth recognized someone standing on a front porch at a residence on Carlton Avenue, pulled out a handgun and ordered the vehicle be turned around. After a few moments passed, the Camry traveled by the residence and McGrapth allegedly fired at multiple people standing outside of the house, striking the 2-year-old boy in the head.
Columbus police say McGrapth was booked in the Franklin County jail on an unrelated incident. He is being charged with felonious assault in connection to the July 7 shooting.
