COLUMBUS, Ohio — The City of Columbus shut down a house in North Linden where police officers received several calls about assaults and drug activity in the last year.
Columbus City Attorney Zach Klein announced on Thursday that the property located at 2804 Grasmere Ave., off East Weber Street, was shut down. The house is blocks away from multiple small businesses, a church, public parks and a high school.
According to court documents, a victim reported being severely beaten at the house in September 2022.
Two months later, undercover detectives bought fentanyl at the house in a controlled purchase.
Officers would later execute a search warrant where they found multiple people with felony offenses and arrested them.
In July 2023, the Columbus Division of Fire responded to the house for a report of an assault. The victim said the person who assaulted her and others living at the house use drugs.
Undercover detectives made a controlled purchase of crack cocaine at the house in September 2023. Later that month, detectives found more narcotics.
The property owners recently reached an agreement with the city to declare the property a public nuisance, according to Klein.
“If you bring drugs and violence into our neighborhoods, the City will go after you, shut you down and hold you accountable,” Klein said. “Residents and families living in Linden care about their community and having a safe place to live and raise a family. That’s why we continue to work with neighbors and law enforcement to take action to get these dangerous properties shut down.”
