FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio — A Powell man who admitted to killing his ex-girlfriend last year was sentenced to 31 years to life in prison on Thursday.
Chance Donohoe, 28, pleaded guilty in July to one count of aggravated murder and one count of abuse of a corpse for the death of 29-year-old Shannon Hiott.
On Aug. 29, 2023, the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office said Donohoe forced his way into Hiott's residence on Berkeley Road in southeast Columbus and stabbed her multiple times. Officers pronounced her dead at the scene.
The Columbus Division of Police says officers were alerted by the Powell Police Department about a call from a person claiming to have stabbed Hiott.
Donohoe turned himself in at a Sheetz gas station in Liberty Township and admitted to his role in Hiott's death.
Donohoe was originally charged with two counts of aggravated murder, two counts of murder, aggravated burglary and abuse of a corpse before pleading guilty to one murder charge and abuse of a corpse. The other charges were dropped.
