Man faces life in prison after being found guilty of murder in 2022 Columbus shooting

Brad Madison faces a minimum sentence of 26 years to life in prison with a maximum sentence of life without parole.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus man was found guilty of multiple murder charges Monday in connection to a fatal shooting on the city's south side over two years ago.

A Franklin County jury found 37-year-old Brad Madison guilty of two counts of murder, one count of aggravated murder and one count of having a weapon while under disability in the death of 33-year-old Brandon Joiner.

On May 16, 2022, Columbus police initially responded to a report of a crash just after 2:30 a.m. in the area of state Route 104 and Haul Road.

According to police, officers found a vehicle that had struck the barrier in the median.  A short distance from the vehicle, officers found Joiner suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead by medics at 2:53 a.m.

Records from Franklin County Municipal Court state that a video captured Joiner and Madison leaving High Street in separate vehicles at the same time. The video showed Madison following Joiner on South High Street just before Route 104. 

Court records state that Joiner was on the phone with his girlfriend, who heard the shooting. 

Madison is facing a minimum sentence of 26 years to life in prison. The maximum sentence he could face is life in prison without the possibility of parole

His sentencing is scheduled for Oct. 23.
