COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Franklin County judge ordered Tuesday that a 23-year-old man suspected of killing his pregnant girlfriend be held without a bond.
Devon Blair was issued an $11 million bond during his arraignment in the Franklin County Municipal Court last month, but that was changed to no bond during his hearing on Tuesday.
He is charged with murder in the death of 19-year-old Brooke Devinney and her unborn baby. He was also indicted on charges of felonious assault, strangulation, involuntary manslaughter, domestic violence and tampering with evidence, according to court records.
He is being held in the Franklin County Corrections Center.
A text message was sent to 911 on June 16 about a domestic violence situation at a home on Parkwick Drive in southwest Columbus.
Officers with the Columbus Division of Police arrived on the scene just as Blair was running away. There was a brief chase, but the officers lost him.
Police found Devinney inside the home with severe injuries from a physical assault, according to a court affidavit.
Devinney was taken to Grant Medical Center where she later died. Court records said she was pregnant, and her unborn child also died.
Blair was arrested after police found him following an extensive search.
Blair had an active arrest warrant for a previous domestic violence incident late last year involving Devinney.
According to court documents, he was arrested in December 2023 after Devinney reported that he assaulted, strangled and stabbed her in the stomach. The report states that while being apprehended for the incident, Blair punched and bit an officer.
He was released on a $350,000 bond after being charged previously with felonious assault, domestic violence and strangulation. The warrant was issued after he reportedly broke the conditions of his bond, court records say.
Court records state that on June 13, Devinney filed a police report after Blair hit her in the face and threatened to kill her while the two were driving in the area of Interstate 270 and Georgesville Road.
