Man being held on $1.5M bond in connection to road rage incident, shooting death of teen

Skyler Burley, 30, is charged with murder in connection to the death of 17-year-old Gage Anderson, the Columbus Division of Police says.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man suspected of fatally shooting a teen boy Tuesday after a road rage incident in southwest Columbus is now being held on a $1.5 million bond.

Skyler Burley, 30, is charged with murder in connection to the death of 17-year-old Gage Anderson, the Columbus Division of Police says. Police believe the shooting stemmed from a road rage incident and the two involved did not know each other.

The shooting happened near the United Dairy Farmers gas station at 3535 Clime Rd. Tuesday evening. Arriving officers found Anderson unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound.

He was taken to Grant Medical Center and later pronounced dead.

Columbus Police Sgt. Joe Albert said about 10 minutes after the shooting, police got an anonymous call from the 3800 block of Linward Road, which is less than a mile from the shooting scene.

The caller said they witnessed a male, later identified by police as Burley, driving a black Kia pull up to a residence on Linward Road and he was acting suspiciously, adding that he was concerned with a police helicopter that was flying overhead. He reportedly went into the residence but quickly came out and got into a gold SUV.

A Columbus dispatcher believed the shooting and what the anonymous caller witnessed were related. Albert said the dispatcher aired that information to officers and the helicopter in the area.

The helicopter was able to quickly find the SUV leaving the area. Albert said the driver didn't stop for officers for a short amount of time, but eventually stopped on Linward Road. Burley allegedly got out and ran, but officers were able to take him into custody.

Albert credited the anonymous caller and the dispatcher with catching the suspected shooter.

Anyone with information is asked to call Columbus Police Det. Stevens at 614-645-3750, the homicide unit at 614-645-4730 or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers at 614-461-8477 (TIPS).
