COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Franklin County judge reduced the bond for two men accused of fatally beating a man to death in the Short North last year.
Court records say Dwayne Cummings' bond was reduced from $1 million to $750,000 and Chrystian Foster's $1 million bond was lowered to $250,000.
Cummings and Foster are accused of fighting 37-year-old Gregory Coleman Jr. outside of a bar on North High Street in the early morning hours of Sept. 5, 2022.
Video released from the Columbus Division of Police shows a suspect getting ready to fight Coleman when another suspect punched Coleman, knocking him onto the road. Both men then beat Coleman while he was unconscious on the ground.
Coleman died 12 days after the beating. Police arrested Cummings on Sept. 21 and Foster on Oct. 4. Both have been charged with murder.
If Cummings or Foster do post bond, both will be on electronic monitoring, regular screenings for drugs and alcohol and cannot possess any firearms. Neither men can have contact with Coleman's family.
Coleman's family filed a wrongful death lawsuit last month against the suspects and Julep, where the fight occurred. Cummings and Foster were working as security at the time and the bar was attempting to keep patrons in line. The lawsuit says Foster "took issue with Coleman," confronted him and asked him to clear the sidewalk before the fight occurred. The family is seeking damages in excess of $25,000.
In December, Julep was one of 12 bars and businesses to not have their liquor licenses renewed because of violent crimes, overdoses or liquor violations.
