$2 million bond set for man suspected of fatally shooting 18-year-old woman near Dublin

Court records say there was a domestic dispute between Cannon and another person inside the apartment unit on the night of the shooting.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Franklin County judge set a $2 million bond for a man charged in the deadly shooting of an 18-year-old woman at an apartment complex near Dublin last week.

Mika Cannon, 22, appeared in Franklin County Municipal Court on Wednesday. His court appearance comes a day after he was arrested and charged with murder.

The charge stems from the shooting death of 18-year-old Kiara Nelson on Saturday.

Police were called to Karric Place of Dublin apartments on O’Sweeney Lane, located east of Tuttle Mall, after receiving a report of a shooting. Officers found Nelson shot inside one of the apartments.

She was taken to Riverside Methodist Hospital where she later died.

Court records say there was a domestic dispute between Cannon and another person inside the apartment unit on the night of the shooting. Police say Nelson attempted to intervene and was shot.

Court records state that after Nelson was shot, Cannon was seen leaving the apartment in a hurry.

Police issued a warrant for his arrest. Jail records listed Cannon as in custody, but police did not provide details on how he was arrested.

His next court appearance is scheduled for July 15.
