Police ID victim fatally shot near southeast Columbus gas station as 28-year-old man

Police did not provide additional information about a suspect or what led up to the shooting.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Division of Police has identified the victim who was fatally shot near a gas station on the city's southeast side Saturday evening as a 28-year-old man.

Officers were called to a business in the 2600 block of Noe-Bixby Road around 6:50 p.m. on reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a man, later identified as Michael Simmons, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Simmons was transported to Mount Carmel East Hospital where he was pronounced dead just after 7:20 p.m.

Police did not provide additional information about a suspect or what led up to the shooting.
