Man charged in fatal 2021 South Linden shooting in custody

Police arrested 28-year-old Terell Stokes on Thursday and charged him with one count of murder. The charge stems from the shooting death of Superia Wilson.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man accused of fatally shooting a woman at her home in the South Linden neighborhood more than a year ago is now in custody.

Police arrested 28-year-old Terell Stokes on Thursday and charged him with one count of murder. The charge stems from the shooting death of 31-year-old Superia Wilson on July 16, 2021.

Columbus Division of Police officers were called to the 2000 block of Grasmere Avenue on a ShotSpotter alert.

Arriving officers found Wilson suffering from gunshot wounds inside one of the homes. She was taken to Grant Medical Center where she later died.

Police learned that Wilson and her boyfriend were near the front porch when they saw a black car parked on the street. Three men then got out of the car and started shooting at the couple.

On Wednesday, a detective received a lab lead from the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network of the Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives. The lead linked the shell casings found at the shooting to a firearm that was purchased by Stokes.

Court records say police recovered the firearm in September 2021 when Stokes was arrested out of a domestic violence call.

The ATF ran an “e-trace” check and found that Stokes purchased the weapon on Dec. 26, 2019. In June 2021, Stokes was told that he could pick up his firearm from the police property room.

Stokes is being held in the Franklin County Corrections Center. He appeared in Franklin County Municipal Court and his bond was set for $750,000.
