Juvenile detained in connection to Groveport Kroger stabbing

Officers were called to the Kroger, located at 6011 Groveport Road, just before 6:10 p.m.

GROVEPORT, Ohio — Groveport police detained a juvenile in connection to a stabbing that left two people injured outside of a Kroger Wednesday evening.

Officers were called to the Kroger, located at 6011 Groveport Road, just before 6:10 p.m. and found two people stabbed in the parking lot.

Groveport Police Captain Kurt Blevins said Wednesday night that a person of interest was detained in Canal Winchester by Fairfield County deputies. Blevins said the person is a juvenile and was "directly involved" in the matter.

Blevins said although details are still being sorted out, investigators believe the stabbing originated from a dispute in a relationship.

The stabbing victims, who are both adults, were taken to a nearby hospital. One of the victims was treated and released and the second victim was held for observation overnight.

According to Blevins, one of the adults was in possession of a loaded magazine but no firearms were recovered at the scene.

Blevins said he wants people to know that was not a random attack.

“It is not a random attack or anything like that. That’s the main message I want to get out. It’s not something that just happened,” Blevins said.

Police said they will send extra officers to the area to ensure the publics safety, and to discourage something like this from happening again. They said Kroger does have security cameras inside and outside of the store, but they will do more to help.

“We have a camera tower that we will likely deploy over there as well,” Blevins said.

Blevins said this stabbing is very uncommon for the area. But, they will continue to do everything they can to keep everyone safe.

“It’s good to be vigilant, aware of your surroundings and that king of thing but I want to assure the public it’s safe to shop there and visit there,” he said.

Groveport police will continue to investigate the incident. Anyone who has information is asked to contact their office at 614-830-2060.
