Passover celebrations in central Ohio begin

Passover is the most observed Jewish holiday of the year, and Chabad Columbus is encouraging those who want to participate to come celebrate.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The celebration of Passover begins Wednesday for Jewish people, and there are several opportunities for celebration in central Ohio.

Passover is the most observed Jewish holiday of the year, and Chabad Columbus is encouraging those who want to participate to come celebrate and learn about the Jewish faith.

The eight-day festival of Passover is celebrated this year from sundown on April 5 until after nightfall on April 13.

Passover commemorates the exodus of the Jews from Egypt and will be celebrated with festive “Seder” dinners on Wednesday and Thursday. Other holiday observances include restricting the consumption of leavened products such as bread and pasta, and instead eating unleavened matzah.

Chabad Columbus is hosting two giant community Seders for all members of the Jewish community on Wednesday and Thursday this week, each being a different Seder experience.

“We are thrilled to welcome Columbus’ Jewish community to join in our Seders,” said Rabbi Areyah Kaltmann, who directs Chabad Columbus. “We want to bring the Jewish holidays to life, making them accessible and enjoyable for all ages.

On Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in New Albany, the Lori Schottenstein Chabad Center is a spectacular one-of-a-kind Seder experience for the entire family. It's complete with a gourmet child-friendly menu, live holiday entertainment, a 20 ft. tall Pyramid and a simulated experience of the ten plagues.

All are welcome to join the community seder, regardless of Jewish affiliation or background. Reservations can be made online for the first Seder and the second Seder.
