The Columbus Metropolitan Library is preparing to break ground on a brand new Whitehall branch.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. Sept. 10 at the facility, which will offer 20,000 square feet of space and 100 parking spaces.

The new branch is partially funded by a gift from Carol Snowden, a former librarian who left the library $750,000 when she passed away.

The Whitehall library branch is part of Columbus Metropolitan Library's commitment to rebuild or renovate 10 branches by 2020.

The library is expected to open in 2014.
