Almost a year after the terminal modernization program began, the Columbus International Airport finished the first phase of the $80 million terminal modernization program.

Terminal A, serving Southwest and AirTran passengers, has completed its renovations.

Port Columbus says the concourse features new flooring, new gate holdroom carpeting, wall treatments, ceiling tiles and stainless steel column wraps.

Additionally, the terminal offers renovated restrooms with additional passenger convenience features.

Terminal A will now offer additional food and beverage options by Wino Volo and Donatos Pizza.

The terminal renovations also included mechanical equipment updates.

Port Columbus says that the systems and multiple technological advancements, including telecommunications, tie into an independently powered data center.

The data center is equipped with environmental controls and 24/7 monitoring capabilities.

Port Columbus says Concourse A finished within Phase 1 budget projections of $3.5 million.

Concourse C, serving Delta Airlines, will finish the $5.9 million renovations in the next few months.

The $11.5 million Concourse B renovation is starting in the fall and planned to finish in 2014.

Concourse B will serve Air Canada Express, American Airlines, Frontier, United and US Airways as well as charter flights.

Ticket lobby modernization will begin later this year and end mid-2015.

The upgrades will continue in baggage claim.

President and CEO Elaine Roberts says that there are plans for a new terminal to be built when passenger demand requires and now there is room with the new runway opened in August.

All of the renovations are combined with numerous other airport improvements.

Since 2001 nearly $700 million has been invested by the Airport Authority.
