A longtime high school basketball coach died Tuesday night when his ultralight aircraft crashedin a field in Knox County.

Larry Eberst was the pilot and only passenger in an Antares MA 33 aircraft that came down notfar from Chapman Memorial Airfield near Centerburg around 8 p.m., 10TV's Tino Ramos reported.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Eberst, 54, was the boys basketball coach at Delaware Hayes High School for 15 years. He alsotaught physical education at an elementary school.

"We're definitely going to feel his loss," said assistant superintendent Douglas Behnke. "Hecontributed a great deal to our school district and it will be felt very, very deeply."

The Antares MA 33, described as a "trike" on the manufacturer's Web site, is an ultralightaircraft that appears similar to a motorized tricycle topped by a single, triangular wing. It isclassified as an experimental aircraft by the Federal Aviation Administration.

Eberst is survived by his wife and two children.

The crash remained under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Aviation unit and theFAA.
