Cedar Point has announced the groundbreaking for the Cedar Point Sports Center in Sandusky.
The complex will be located on Cleveland Road.
The outdoor facility will feature nine multi-purpose, synthetic turf fields for youth sports, four NCAA regulation baseball fields, eight NCAA regulation soccer and lacrosse fields and a championship baseball and softball stadium.
Phase one will also feature an area for other activities like miniature golf, a ropes adventure course and a bungee trampoline challenge.
Cedar Point says this portion will be known as Sports Force Parks at Cedar Point Sports Center and managed by Sports Force Parks.
“The Cedar Point Sports Center really is a true public-private partnership,” said Jason McClure, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. “We’re all committed to enhancing community resources, and the benefits to our area will be long-lasting and substantial for years to come.”
Phase two of the Cedar Point Sports Center will see the introduction of a new Erie Metroparks experience, with development of the land at the waterfront with biking trails, scenic spaces to relax and unparalleled views of Lake Erie and Cedar Point in the distance.
Construction on Sports Force Parks at Cedar Point Sports Center will begin at a groundbreaking ceremony on Friday, April 8 at 2 p.m. and continue throughout the summer months. Completion is scheduled for the fall of 2016.
The spring and summer of 2017 will be the inaugural season.
