Cassingham Elementary School students were mourning the death of a fifth grade teacher who waskilled in a car crash on Tuesday evening.
Molly Davis was killed in a car crash that occurred along North High Street in Clintonville,10TV's Andy Hirsch reported.
Davis, 61, started her career at Cassingham in 1971. She took a break from teaching and returnedto the school in 1975, where she taught since then.
The district said Davis was planning to retire this spring after 40 years in the classroom.
"She's the kind of teacher you hope your child will have," said Melissa Schroeder, whosedaughter is in Davis' class. "She cared for each one of these children with all of her heart."
Davis' sister, Mary McMullen, also taught fifth grade at Cassingham before retiring in 2007.
On Tuesday, Davis had hosted a lunchtime reunion for the Bexley High School juniors who were inher class during the 2004-05 school year. The students visited their old classroom where theyopened time capsules they had created while students at Cassingham.
The lunch was a tradition Davis and McMullen started several years ago, the district said.
McMullen said teaching and family were her sister's life.
During her four decades of teaching, she had helped educate more than 1,500 students, Hirschreported.
"Every person was special to her and they can all just know she loved each one of them,"McMullen said."I feel like I should be able to call her. She was my best friend."
Davis was named Ohio's Teacher of the Year in 1983.
Grief counselors were at the school and are available to all Bexley students and staff, thedistrict said.
Police said speed could be a factor in the crash and they are investigating reports of aspeeding car in the area just before Davis' car was struck.
No charges have been filed.
