Artist Unveils New Work Honoring Marines

The artist who created portraits of 23 fallen Marines from Columbus-based Lima Company has finished new pieces of work honoring three men who were killed in Iraq.

New paintings by a central Ohio artist honoring the lives of United States Marines were unveiledon Saturday.

Two years ago, Anita Miller created portraits of 23 Marines from Columbus-based Lima Company whodied while serving in Iraq.   Her works were displayed inside the OhioStatehouse.

When Miller, of Westerville, learned that three other men from units attached the company werealso killed in 2005, she decided to add them to her artistic tribute.

"I knew about these three guys who died in the same explosion on Aug. 3 and it really botheredme," Miller said.

One of the Marines, Brad Harper, was a Dresden, Ohio native based out of Virginia Beach.

Miller also painted Cpl. David Stephen "Bear" Stewart , 24, of Bogalusa, La., and Lance Cpl.Kevin Waruinge, 22, of Tampa, Fla.  Both men died with Harper.

The new paintings will be displayed at Zanesville's Secrest Auditorium.
