A Massachusetts child rape suspect who police say cut off a court-ordered GPS monitoring device and went on a cross-country crime spree has been captured after a month on the run.

A New York State Trooper tried to pull 26-year-old Gergory Lewis over for a missing license plate outside of Albany, New York Tuesday. That's when he fled and crashed into the Hudson River. Police say Lewis had a gun, but no shots were fired when he was apprehended.

Lewis is suspected in at least six sexual assaults and robberies in several states.

He was spotted in Columbus, Ohio Sunday night and in the Indianapolis area before that. He was believed to be in the Denver area in early October, and in Portland, Oregon; Boise, Idaho; and Salt Lake City as well.

Police said Lewis is suspected of kidnapping, robbing and sexually assaulting women working in escort services he arranged to meet at hotels.

He is expected to be arraigned Wednesday on a fugitive charge.
