More than 40 dogs were seized from deplorable conditions at a northeast Columbus residence, according to the Capital Area Humane Society.

A dozen of the animals had to be euthanized following a medical exam. Many of the other dogs were also suffering from severe flea infections and intestinal parasites.

Agents seized the 41 animals at a home on Cleveland Avenue on Sunday, August 10, after several attempts to work with the owner to remove them.

The Pomeranian-Chihuahua mixes were living in terrible conditions, according to agents. The officials said the floor of the home was covered with urine and feces.

The dogs' owner Earnest Preece is currently charged with Prohibitions Concerning Animals. More charges could be filed later.
