A 2 foot bronze owl statue that mysteriously disappeared from downtown Columbus' BattelleRiverfront Park last week was recovered on Thursday.
Nick Lang was walking with a friend in Lancaster's Rising Park when they almost stumbled overthe statue.
"I just thought it was a standard, old owl to keep pigeons away," Lang said.
He brought the owl to his grandmother's house, 10TV's Lindsey Seavert reported.
"I said, 'Oh my God, Nick. It's the owl,'" said Marilyn Downour, Lang's grandmother. "He said, 'What do you mean the owl?' I said, 'The owl that was stolen from Columbus.'"
She rummaged through newspapers and found a picture of the owl.
The statue, valued at $35,000, has been at Battelle Riverfront Park since 1992. It is partof a series that illustrates an old Native American story, Seavert reported.
Last week, a park employee noticed the statue was missing from its perch.
Before the owl returns to the park, it will spend some time with police who will investigate thecase, Seavert reported.
A Columbus' Recreation and Parks worker said that the agency is grateful to Lang andDownour.
