Five people were taken into custody on Wednesday and two children were removed after sheriff'sdeputies say they uncovered a methamphetamine lab in a home.

A 6-year-old and an infant were under the care of Muskingum County Children Services, 10TV'sDanielle Elias reported.

Muskingum County sheriff's deputies raided the house, located in the 300 block of Linn Street,on Wednesday morning.

"They had meth that was already produced, so it was a pretty active lab," said Muskingum CountySheriff Matt Lutz. "We just don't want anybody to get hurt. And when we find one of these, we wantto take care of it."

The raid followed a month-long investigation, Lutz said.

Some of those taken into custody were visitors to the home, which was being used as a rentalproperty, Elias reported.

Neighbors said they never suspected that illegal drugs were being made next door.

"With residue that the kids could touch, and get all over, that's the worst thing is that kidswere in the house," said neighbor Kelly Omen. "And it could explode. "You hear about it happening, but it's usually somewhere else.  It's not usually right across the street."

All five people were being questioned, but official charges have not been filed.
