INDIANAPOLIS — The cost of sending mail is going up this weekend.
The United States Postal Service announced the price increase last fall, which includes raising the cost of a Forever stamp from 66 cents to 68 cents. The increase will bring the price of a book of 20 Forever stamps to $13.60.
The new prices take effect Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024.
The increase is the sixth by USPS since 2019, with the last one coming last July, when the price of a Forever stamp rose three cents to its current price.
Forever stamps are valid to use, well, forever, regardless of the current or future price increase.
In addition to the Forever stamps, the price of metered 1-ounce First-Class letters goes up from 63 cents to 64 cents and First-Class postcards increase from 51 cents to 53 cents. There is no change to the 24-cent charge for additional ounces of First-Class letters and flat items.
The cost to mail a postcard or 1-ounce letter internationally will increase five cents to $1.55.
The postal service also announced percentage increases to its Ground Advantage, Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express service.
In the release announcing the increase last fall, the USPS said it was also looking into price adjustments for products and services including Certified Mail, money order fees, Post Office Box rental fees and the cost to purchase insurance when mailing an item.
The postal service said the price increases are necessary to deliver revenue to achieve financial stability through it's 10-year "Delivering for America" plan.
