Recall issued by some cucumbers sold at select Walmart stores in Ohio recalled over listeria concerns

The potential contamination was discovered by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development through routine sampling.

OHIO, USA — A northern Ohio farm has issued a voluntary recall for some of its whole and bagged salad cucumbers for concerns of possible listeria contamination.

Weirs Farm Inc. in Huron County issued the recall after the potential contamination was discovered by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development through routine sampling.

Listeria is a bacterium that can cause fevers, muscle aches and gastrointestinal issues. The FDA said there have been no reported illnesses or complaints.

The Food and Drug Administration said the cucumbers affected by the recall were not grown or harvested by Wiers Farm. It was sourced from out of state and handled and distributed by the company.

“Wiers Farm operates to the highest standards of health and food safety. We have taken immediate steps to address this isolated incident and we are collaborating closely with the Ohio Department of Agriculture (ODA) to ensure a swift resolution,” the company said.

The whole and bagged salad cucumbers were sold in select Walmart stores in Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. The products have a pack date of June 5, 2024, and June 6, 2024.

  • Size: 1.5-2.5 inch diameter, 6-9 inch length

Wiers Farm 2 pound bagged salad cucumber

  • Pack date of June 5 and June 6
  • Packaging: Clear bag with blue base

While the product involved is past its shelf life and should already be out of distribution, the FDA said consumers should discard the product.
