COLUMBUS, Ohio — Giant Eagle announced on Wednesday it found five skimmer devices used to gain access to customers' card information.
The first tampered PIN pad was found on Nov. 3 at the Giant Eagle located at 4000 West Powell Rd. in Powell.
After the skimmer was found, the grocery store chain inspected PIN pads at all its supermarkets and found skimmers in four additional locations:
- 2801 N. High Street, Columbus, OH 43221
- 6300 Biddulph Road, Brooklyn, OH 44144
- 1825 Snow Road, Parma, OH 44134
- 4401 Mayfield Road, South Euclid, OH 44121
The chain said the skimmers and PIN pads were removed. The skimmers were sent for a forensic analysis but results won't be in for weeks. No additional skimmers were found at other stores.
Because most customers either insert or tap their chipped cards, Giant Eagle says most customers visiting these stores were not affected. The only information at risk includes the payment card and service codes.
All potentially affected bank and credit card providers were notified. Any customers who visited any of the five stories used the magnetic swipe mechanism on the PIN pads should closely monitor their accounts for signs of fraudulent activities.
