No more meter readers coming in and out of your back yard.
Over the next 18 months, AEP Ohio wants to install digital utility meters, or smart meters, on nearly 900,000 local homes.
AEP says smart meters allow customers to get real time information on power usage down to 15-minute increments during any day of the week.
Smart meters give AEP instant notification when and where power goes out.
The company has already determined which homes will get smart meters.
If yours is one, you'll get multiple notices before the switch is made and you don't have to be home when the switch is made.
You should know ‘smart meters’ will add $1.50 to your monthly bill but AEP says it’ll eventually lead to savings that the company will pass along to customers in the form of credits.
