'Very magical, surreal': Video of Taylor Swift hugging Arizona girl goes viral

A family from Surprise, Arizona, was on vacation in New York City when they met Taylor Swift by chance.

SURPRISE, Ariz. — A six-year-old Arizona girl met Taylor Swift by chance, and the video of them meeting went viral.

The video posted to TikTok by user St. Christopher had over 692,000 likes by Thursday night and 3.8 million views. 

"My baby sister just met Taylor Swift!!! She'll remember this forever and ever. Thank you Taylor Swift," Christopher Rodriguez said in the post.

The video shows Swift about to get into a car when she notices Natalie Rodriguez and said, "Is that a child? It's very late."

Swift hugged Natalie Rodriguez and took a picture with her. Natalie Rodriguez was too stunned to speak at that moment.

"I was excited," Natalie Rodriguez said.

She told 12News she was the only one Swift stopped to take a picture with.

"I would tell her thank you," Natalie Rodriguez said.

The encounter happened earlier this month when the Rodriguez family was on vacation in New York City.

"It was very, very magical, surreal," Monica Rodriguez, said. "Something that you definitely can't plan."

Monica Rodriguez, Natalie Rodriguez's mom, said the fleeting moment all happened by chance. They were walking past paparazzi waiting for the pop star on the way back to their hotel. They asked who the photographers were waiting for. 

"I didn't believe him," Monica Rodriguez said.

Monica Rodriguez said they were happy enough to just see Swift, but the hug and photos are icing on the cake.

"The kindness of her heart to just take the time to come back and give Natalie a hug and picture, like that was very sweet," Monica Rodriguez said.

Natalie Rodriguez left New York City with a new favorite singer. Plus, memories to last a lifetime.

"Natalie calls herself a Swiftie now," Monica Rodriguez said.
