COLUMBUS, Ohio — When it comes to visiting The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, most people are looking to be the early bird instead of the night owl, but a new exhibit is providing a one-of-a-kind experience for those who like to stay up late.
Unextinct combines technology and awareness of the impacts of humans on the natural world all into one breathtakingly visual display. This "first in the Midwest" after-dark experience uses immersive digital illusions to bring to life at least 70 extinct and endangered species. This is only the second installation anywhere in the United States.
"The great thing about Unextinct is, it's such a visual spectacle. There's so many cool things to see as you're walking throughout the zoo, and you really, it's hard to explain, really have to see what there is to really appreciate it," said Anthony Sabo, vice president of Operations and Guest Services for the Columbus Zoo.
It's about more than a show, and the concepts of conservation are a part of this experience as well.
"We want all of our guests to understand that each and every one of us can make a positive impact on the world around us. We are a conservation organization and that is our mission, and we want to teach guests how they can ensure that more animals here on Earth do not go extinct," Sabo said.
Unextinct will be at the zoo until May 26, with tickets available on May 17, 18, 24, 25, and ending on the 26. Details can be found here.
