COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Special Olympics is set to hold its annual Polar Plunge event on Feb. 10.
The event will take place on the Chase Plaza at Lower.com Field in downtown Columbus on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration will start at 9:30 a.m.
Participants will take a dip into the frigid pool to raise funds to support programs for the Special Olympics athletes in Ohio.
In honor of this year's theme, "Freezin' for a Reason," participants are encouraged to wear a crazy costume as they prepare to take the plunge into the icy water.
The event will include music, food, drinks and a costume contest before the plunge. Crew Cat, the Columbus Crew mascot, will also be on hand to encourage all the participants to take the fateful leap into the water.
The impact of the Polar Plunge supports year-round sports training and competition, health education and leadership programs for Special Olympics athletes. By fundraising $75 or more, participants help provide opportunities for athletes at no cost to them while creating a greater sense of belonging for everyone in the community.
The Columbus Polar Plunge is one of eight that have been scheduled to take place in communities across Ohio from January through March.
