COLUMBUS, Ohio — Aethereal Jest Arts Council has returned the Columbus Performing Arts Center stage this weekend with their own take on the literary classic "Anne of Green Gables."
Based on the 1908 novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery, the play follows the adventures of young orphan Anne (with an 'E') Shirley as she (mistakenly) is sent to help a pair of aging siblings on their farm in Nova Scotia.
"It's all about her misadventures as she goes throughout the world," explained Taryn Jennifer Huffman, the play's director.
The story revolves around the character of Anne as she embraces her new "found family" in the residents of the fictional Avonlea.
"I think community theatre is so important [for] just bringing people together," said Huffman, acknowledging the parallels present between the play's family-of-choice narrative and the realities around the closeness of a theatrical production's cast and crew.
"I think it's something that everyone will enjoy," said Huffman. "From the littlest of kids to wherever you're at in life, there's something to enjoy for everyone."
Aethereal Jest Arts Council's production of "Anne of Green Gables" runs through Sept. 8 at the Columbus Performing Arts Center in downtown Columbus. For showtimes and ticket information, visit: https://www.aetherealjest.com/.
