PICKERINGTON, Ohio — Pickerington Community Theatre is set to take the stage this weekend with their take on the musical “Young Frankenstein.”
Based on the beloved Mel Brooks film, “Young Frankenstein” is a racy romp of show tunes and dance numbers.
“It has been a real challenge to take on a show that so many people adore and so many people can quote every line of the show,” said Ben Marteney, who is tackling the title role of Dr. Frederick Frankenstein. “I have had to channel my inner Gene Wilder but also put my own little spin on it.”
The show contains all of the jokes, quotes and musical numbers like Irving Berlin’s “Puttin’ on the Ritz” that fans will expect, but incorporates a number of new pieces pulled from all musical styles.
“The music is so perfect to fit into the ridiculous fun nature of the show,” said Lucy Hoy, who takes on the role of Inga. “The choreography is fabulous and exhausting but it just makes for a giant fantastic time.”
Both music educators, Marteney and Hoy value the abundance of quality musical theatre opportunities in central Ohio for both audiences and entertainers.
“As an artist myself, I believe that the arts are absolutely essential for our human experience,” said Marteney.
Pickerington Community Theatre’s production of “Young Frankenstein” runs July 12 through July 21 at the Wigwam Event Center in Pickerington. For showtimes and ticket information, click here.
