DUBLIN, Ohio — Original Productions Theatre in Dublin is holding the world premiere of an all-new suspense thriller play by a local playwright this week.
"'See No Evil' is a thriller about an old money family who has a treasure trove of secrets that gradually gets uncovered," said director Daniel Rodriguez Hijo. "I knew from the moment that I read this play that I had to direct it because it was the first play that I had ever read which made me audibly gasp as I read it."
Original Productions Theatre is dedicated to bringing new works to life.
"Our mission has always been to produce and give a platform to artists to showcase their work," explained Alyssa Ryan, executive director of Original Productions Theatre. "And it's a really fun thing to, as an actor, to create the character for the first time. And, so then, as a production company to give that opportunity to other artists is really cool."
The play is the latest work by Columbus-based playwright Cory Skurdal to make its way to the stage, a process that the author explained can be difficult and take a long time.
"I have a great deal of fun writing thrillers, suspense plays," said Skurdal. "I think there are going to be some surprises for people; there have been some surprises for the director, for the cast as they've read and worked through this piece. Just come out and have a fun time watching a suspense play during the spooky season."
Original Productions Theatre's "See No Evil" runs Oct. 24 through Nov. 3 at the Abbey Theater in Dublin. For more information, visit: https://www.optheatre.org/.
