Communities across the country typically honor the life and legacy of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. through tributes and commemorations like community service, volunteering and readings.
Listed below are several events scheduled for Columbus and the surrounding area.
Capital University | East Main Street and College Avenue
Capital University will be hosting its 33rd annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Learning on Jan. 15. This year's theme is "Courage in Community" and will feature addresses from Tobias Spears and Frederick Charles Staidum Jr. There will be things to do for people of all ages. City of Columbus | Lincoln Theater, 769 East Long Street
Columbus is honoring Dr. King through its annual program on Jan. 15. The event is free and open to the public. The march has been canceled due to weather conditions, but the program at the Lincoln Theater is set to begin at 4:45 p.m. Find more information about the event here.

Delaware County | Ohio Wesleyan University, Hamilton-Williams Campus Center, 40 Rowland Avenue
The annual remembrance of Dr. King in Delaware County will kick off Jan. 15 from noon to 1 p.m. featuring keynote speaker Dr. Hasan Jeffries, an Associate Professor of History at The Ohio State University. Hilliard | Hilliard Community Center - 3800 Veterans Memorial Dr.
Hilliard is hosting a volunteer fair and community luncheon on Jan. 15 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Attendees can buy a handmade bowl by students in the Hilliard City School District for $10 that's filled with soup, alongside a sandwich and dessert from the local Kiwanis Club. On Jan. 15, the King Arts Center is hosting its MLK Open House as they explore the impact of the life and legacy of Dr. King. This event is open to all ages and offers musical and live theatrical performances, and serves as an opportunity for visitors to learn about the civil rights movement. Otterbein University is holding its annual convocation on Jan. 17 which will feature a keynote address by Shawn Harper, a former NFL player and current business owner, author, and motivational speaker. Worthington is hosting an event Jan. 15 to remember Dr. King. The event includes a speech from keynote speaker Ange-Marie Hancock, executive director of the Kirwan Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnicity at The Ohio State University, and a musical performance by Capriccio Youth Choir and more. Refreshments will be served following the program. The event is free and open to the public, but everyone attending is asked to bring canned food items to be donated to the local food pantry.
