COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Creekside Blues and Jazz Festival returns to Gahanna on June 14.
The three-day festival will feature food, entertainment, family activities and more than 30 bands.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the festival welcomes back for the third time an open-air art studio. Twenty artists from around central Ohio will create murals live during the event.
"We thought that visual art goes hand-in-hand with performance art," explained Lori Kappes, the executive director of Visit Gahanna. "It just was a natural fit for the festival."
One of the artists participating in this year's open-air studio is Heidi Clifford, a muralist, installation artist and designer who goes by the artistic name "Primary Child."
"I balance play within art-making, I connect communities with meaningful public art, and I'm also trying to get as much color out there in the world as I can," explained Clifford.
Clifford participated in the 2023 Creekside "Bright Blocks" mural festival, creating a piece titled "The Flowers Want to See You Bloom Too."
"Mural festivals are always a really quick, really on-site, live painting kind of thing so it's quick decisions you've got to make - you're in the sun - it's a really fun experience, so I definitely wanted to come back this year if I could and do this again."
After the festival concludes, the art created by the muralists will go into the Gahanna parks for people to enjoy throughout the summer.
