COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Gay Men's Chorus returns to the Riffe Center stage this weekend with an all-new concert called "Holiday!"
Filled with favorite sacred and secular songs, the show takes audiences on a fun and festive journey through the holiday season.
"We obviously love the nostalgia we have during this season, so there's a lot of that in there," explained Brayton Bollenbacher, artistic director for the chorus. "There's also a different flare from songs that are from around the world. But then also there's a message of unity and peace that I think that, not only, do we need in the world in general, but during this season it's really important to all of us."
Bollenbacher explained that the chorus lives by their tagline "Voices raised, lives changed."
"We are a chorale organization we love the song, we love the dance; we love this, kind of, beautiful stage adventure that we put on," Bollenbacher said. "And, of course, we are mission-focused in that we are for LGBTQ and allied people, but it's beyond that, right? There are so many places right now where people are feeling isolated and alone and they don't feel like they have a community maybe because of a difference that they have or a difference in where they're from or so many different ways that we've set people apart."
Bollenbacher emphasized that the chorus is a community effort.
"Really what we're doing here at the Columbus Gay Men's Chorus is that we're making this amazing music together and we're putting on this performance, but we are also a community," he said.
The Columbus Gay Men's Chorus performance of "Holiday!" takes the stage of the Davidson Theatre at the Riffe Center Saturday, Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 17 at 2 p.m.
