BalletMet's 'The Nutcracker' returns to the Ohio Theatre

“The Nutcracker” runs through Dec. 23.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — It’s the holiday season, and one of central Ohio’s most beloved Christmas traditions has returned as BalletMet’s “The Nutcracker” takes the stage once again at the Ohio Theatre.

“’The Nutcracker’ is a holiday tradition,” said dancer Joan Sebastian Zamora of the beloved ballet. “It brings many joyful memories and has all of the magic and holiday spirit.”

Zamora is in his first season with BalletMet, but his history with “The Nutcracker” extends back to his first experience as an 8-year-old ballet beginner.

“It’s a production that I have been doing since day one in my career,” explained Zamora.

Because the ballet traditionally has many younger characters on stage, the piece affords many opportunities for burgeoning ballet dancers.

Not only new to BalletMet, Zamora is finding his footing in a welcoming central Ohio as well.

“I love the diversity in cultures and the [warm] welcoming of the people,” Zamora said.

Zamora hopes to continue bringing this fan-favorite to life for many more years to come.

“We create this magic around our members, around the company; this feeling of family and tradition,” said Zamora. “So, it’s always nice to share that on a stage.”
